Training Hikes

Image
My gear may not be complete but I have been thinking about some fun training hikes prior to doing the actual PCT.  My daily walk takes me out to see the mountains. One really stands alone. Mt. Diablo Its that little hump in the screen, believe me its there. Its crazy how clear it is, but my phone just does not do it justice.  Would it not be an adventure to hike from my house to this mountain, climb it, and then (have someone pick me up,lol).  Here is what google maps has to say about it. 31 hours, 91 miles.  Currently it takes me 2 hours to walk 5 miles. Assuming that pace, I could walk about 20 miles a day, that would take me about 5 days to walk from my front door to the top of the mountain.  I don't know right now what would be my 4 day stops or where I could actually camp. I will figure those out and post it here.

Announcement

This is for all those people grinding away at whatever they do.  I am just like you. I have worked for the same place for 32 years. By the time I retire it will be 33 years.  I went thru times where I felt like my head was full of stuffing. I started running at work but caught myself not looking over my shoulder when crossing traffic. I felt like a deer , except it was not head lights that caught me, it was the repetitive grind of the uselessness of work. Year after year, worthless boss after worthless boss. Time was sand slipping thru my hands, and I was too stupid to see it.  Not one for radical change, even if it saved my life, trapped by the, but its a good job (good enough) to just keep your head above water. Or just think you will be able to retire after 10 more years.  Believe you me, there is always another 10 more years, another quarter of time earned for Social Security, the next raise.
